Paphos has long been known as a paradise for travelers. Located in Cyprus, this beautiful city experiences abundant sunshine and comfortable temperatures throughout most of the year. Paphos also boasts magnificent beaches, fascinating sites of interest and a unique cultural flare.

Named after a Greek mythological figure, the city of Paphos has experienced an eventful history throughout its existence. Legend has it that Aphrodite landed on the site of the city when she ascended from the sea. The city was also once a part of the Roman and Ottoman empires. Many locals left the city throughout the Middle Ages, and the city continued to experience a decline until the 1970s. It has since become one of the top tourist spots in Europe

The Odeon Amphitheater, which as constructed during the second century, is still used to host outdoor music concerts. The ancient church of Agia Solomoni features a series of catacombs worth exploring. Manuscripts and religious artifacts dating back to the 12th century are showcased inside the Ayios Neophytos Monastery. Paphos Fort, which was destroyed by Venetian invaders during the 16th century and later restored, still stands overlooking the harbor.

Visitors also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of this wondrous city by visiting one of the local museums. The Paphos Archaeological Museum showcases intricate stone carvings dating back to the Neolithic Age. The Weaving Museum in the village of Fyti offers demonstrations of old textile weaving techniques used during the Middle Ages. Maa-Palaiokastro, the site of the first Greek settlement in Cyprus, is currently a museum housing several artifacts.

Paphos is also a great place to enjoy many sport and leisure activities. An 18-hole miniature golf course provides a day of fun for avid and casual golfers. Diving tours can be arranged to explore underneath the mystical sea. Cycling tours give visitors the chance to witness some of the city's spectacular scenery while getting in some exercise. The rugged terrain surrounding the city can be explored by arranging a day hiking tour.

The city additionally hosts many art and cultural events throughout the year. Outdoor operatic performances are held at the harbor every September. Local artists open their galleries to the public in October during the Open Studio Cyprus art festival. Several religious fairs are also held in the city throughout the year.

Of course, a visit to Paphos would not be complete without visiting one of the splendid beaches. The waterfront along Coral Bay is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Many people visit 'Petra Tou Romiou' to catch a glimpse of Aphrodite's Rock. Faros Beach is famous for its picturesque lighthouse.
